Sunday Evening Visitors, Including an Old Friend

This guy and another, one with a black head, have been hanging out at the top of the hill; I see them as I drive in and out. They are so ungainly and funny-looking up close, but so very beautiful in flight. I wonder if these were born nearby and this is their 'hood now; I've been seeing them very regularly these last few months.

This deer comes to eat outside the bathroom window under the birdfeeders.

At long last—I believe it is a woodlet. We hear them often—hear golden-fronteds, that is, and who knows if they are our woodlets or not, but why wouldn't they be, I ask you?—up near the Ns' house behind us, but I haven't seen one in ages. His coloring (though hard to see here) leads me to believe he is a youngster. Just a few days after I spotted him, we saw both Woodie and Woodina at their two trees. Woodie was in the staging tree and Woodina in the nesting tree, hopping around, peering in the nest hole. Could it be a late summer brood is on the way?
