At the Cottage Birds, Part IV: The Unloved

I just wrote about the blackbirds that they're my favorites—but truth be told, they're all my favorites, each in its own birdy way, even the wood pigeons (woodpigeons?), which many English seem to hate as much as Americans hate their pigeons. Aunt D kept saying,"I don't care for pigeon," though she meant in an eating, rather than personal, sense.

The starlings also get a bad rap, though I think they are quite beautiful. Aunt D kept calling a word (which I cannot for the life of me recall at this moment) which she said means one who eats a lot. She also told me she saw starlings in Africa that were most amazingly colored; I'll have to look up some photos of those.

The doves are like the pigeons—scorned, though really gorgeous. This is a collared dove, if I remember correctly.

I'm not sure how this can be my only English sparrow photo, but it's the only one I can find right now. I just love sparrows. The English house sparrow and ours are exactly the same species, and in both countries, are not unloved as much as simply underrated and sort of ignored.
