A Very Happy Texas Holiday!
I am positive that this century plant is celebrating the solstice. It

The Butter Cow
Mrs B, thinking of you this evening as I make soup & cheesy
toast...have I told you lately how much we in this house love the
butter cow?

My Floridian Avocado
This avocado, given me by Fran & Groovy, was grown on their very own avocado tree. It is shown here nestled in my purse, in which it rode from Tampa back to Austin. It's almost bigger than my head! And is most delicious, to boot.

Gretchen, I Found Out About the Butterflies
On Thursday October 15th a giant cloud of butterflies descended upon Austin; Gretchen and I saw them in different areas as we made our separate ways to our lunch date. I've never seen anything like it before; the entire sky was full of butterflies! I asked my mother the next day if she'd seen them; she hadn't, but showed me this article from the local paper that explains that they were snout butterflies on the hunt for food.
On Saturday I saw more of them, though much fewer in number overall, along RR12 and in Dripping Springs.
On Sunday, we had our own private little cloud of them in our meadow; they were going mad over just this one plant (though there are others like it nearby, and dozens of flowers are in bloom right now). It was beautiful and strange!

Perfectly Innocent Spider in the Tub, Just Hanging Out, Not Bothering Anyone
Photo taken after taking the spider out of the tub. Then I had to take a photo to make sure it was not one of the kind who shall not be mentioned, because we haven't seen one for months now and don't want to jinx ourselves, especially since someone brought it up to me not three hours ago and then there this guy was. Shhh. We shall not speak of it again.
